Kickstarter Red Alert: Channel A

I wrote about Channel A a while back, and I wanted to come back to that for a moment because they’ve got less than 48 hours to go to make around $900 in order to fund. Channel A is a card game about putting together a crazy  and funny concept for an anime and pitching it like it was a real thing. They are so close and it’s such a nice-looking game made by some great people that it’d be pretty disappointing if that didn’t manage to fund, so I wanted to put out the word on that again. Check out my old article if you want, and you can also check out Ewen Cluney’s tumblr where he’s posted a cool graphic made by Clay Gardner, the game’s graphic designer, with some Channel A card combinations based on Clay’s twitter friends (including me!). So check it out and see if it’s something you’d want to pitch in for, it’s got a small window left to get it over that last hurdle.

Kickstarters To Watch Followup: ARMSmasters

A while back I posted about a Kickstarter related to an anime-esque action-adventure series that looks to have potential. While that Kickstarter didn’t fund, Michael Winn went back to the drawing board and came out with a new kickstarter goal that is well within reach. At 3042/8000 dollars with 32 days to go, this one looks well on its way to funding, so if you backed the old kickstarter, you should definitely back this one. The difference between the two is the length of the animation produced – a fully animated teaser instead of a short pilot episode. Michael sounds committed to making this a high quality production, and the reward tiers are quite nice: a DVD copy of the film, art books (both digital and physical varieties as suit your tastes and wallet) and other goodies. So if you backed last time, head on over, and if you didn’t, check it out nonetheless.

Kickstarters To Watch: ARMSmasters

ARMSmasters is a 2D animation project intended to produce a western action-adventure cartoon with certain anime aesthetics in the vein of Avatar: The Last Airbender and Young Justice. It’s a high-fantasy magical world where mythical, powerful heroes perform incredible deeds. This project caught my eye for how reminiscent it was of certain RPG products we all know that possess similar conceits. Dungeons And Dragons 4th Edition and White Wolf’s Exalted products spring to mind as examples of this setup: a group of powerful and extraordinary heroes must band together and depend on one another as they take on a landscape of larger-than-life villains in order to secure powerful artifacts that could shake the status quo of the world. This is the kind of world you’d see in a Final Fantasy title, with its magical technology and superpowered fantasy heroes, but that seems pretty scarce on TV, despite the amount of fantasy headspace that these concepts consume in the culture at large.
