Aberrations
The world of Eden has suffered immensely in past ages. Cataclysm scholarship attributes some of the destructive events of the Cataclysms to the “Crawling Chaos”, the Forlorn Void past the sky and clouds, a void where there is no air and few creatures can survive. Lifeforms existed far beyond, in the expanse that houses the twin moons and the thousand stars, or so many think. These lifeforms, through weird ritual, horrible planar rifts, or through the uncovering of horrifying secrets, have come to exist in Eden.
Aberrations are alien beings that inspire horror and madness in those who behold them. Though not as common as Spirits, they are a terrible reality. Especially in the vast caverns, old ruins, ancient tunnels – everything that has a connection with the past in Eden has a connection with these unnatural beasts. Adventurers who dare dig too deep into Eden’s core or who greedily seek the lore and artifice of the past may find themselves unearthing things too horrible for the mind to comprehend and descend into madness before being swallowed into the schemes, or merely mouths, of these long-lived monstrosities.
Curiously, some races of Aberrant origin exist in Eden among the “normal” races. The most important are the Dromidae, who hail from a kingdom in the airless reaches of space and exhibit alien powers of the mind, engage in trade, and even settle down to live, within Adel’s nations. Humanoid as they may appear cosmetically, they are yet another reminder that things existed beyond the reaches of time, imagination and the grasp of the latest age.
If the Dromidae know anything about the world before the world, if from their aberrant palaces in space they witnessed anything of the times before the last cataclysm, then they are masters at feigning ignorance. The Dromidae rule within the Forlorn Void that stretches beyond the sky and houses the thousand stars, but they know nothing more about the old world than the Adelians do, and they, unlike the Aberrations, are connected to this world’s fate, and not to that of the last.
