Daemonomicon Adeliesce, First Tome

Spirits defend me, for I have seen such darkness, that my sky is always black. In the heart of that wasting land, Noshiki, I have been tortured by the most dire of horrors. Taken as a child by the brutal cults of the Erinys, I was twisted out of my innocent form, washed over with dark magic and convinced to destroy by murderous whispers. I have killed my own people and eaten demon flesh. I live now under lock and key in the Convent of Saint Dakara’s Will, having been crippled in battle; unlike my fellow Erinys, I begged the Seraphim for mercy, pleaded the Spirits.

Mercy cannot be granted to me in full. But what could be given, I now have. My body is weighed down by heavy chains, and I am locked in a quiet, reinforced bedroom, where I can hurt no one.

The Dakarans watch me, every day. Whenever sanity begins to slip, I try to beg of them to save me. But what has been done to me cannot be reversed. Hours from now the terrors will take me again. I will lose my mind, I will give in to the voices, I will rave and thrash and try to hurt others. I will have to be restrained, sometimes given strange herbs. All that I can accomplish while lucid is to write this tome for the blessed women of Dakara. This is the only action of vengeance that I can take against the woman who destroyed me. I will reveal all of her powers and allies.

I will lay her bare. I will insure she and her ilk are known to all Seraphim, my true sisters, so that our holy protectors are best equipped to fight the war against the dark. Even if it destroys me.

This will be my compendium of their secrets. A tool of justice for all time.

Reviewing At Critical-Hits

Today I’ve got a review up at Critical Hits for Rogue Trader: Hostile Acquisitions. It’s a fairly long and detailed review in my usual way. I’ll be joining the fine folks at Critical-Hits henceforth, reviewing stuff over at their site. I think this is a handy arrangement, since it lets me focus more on what this blog is about, which is worldbuilding, homebrew and the World of Adel, while still getting to air my thoughts on RPGs. I’ll be reviewing all kinds of stuff, but if you have any suggestions, or products you’d like to see reviewed (that, hopefully, are actually on sale, preferably at DriveThruRPG and RPGNow, where I get my stuff), email me, or send me a note on Twitter (@WyattSalazar), or leave a comment in one of my reviews.

Dungeons of Adel: The Hellmouth

One of the Arch-Dungeons of Adel, the Hellmouth is a member of a family of massive, seemingly living spaces that exist beneath each Nation of Adel (and the Abyss Isle and Noshiki), their exact positions shifting, shrinking and growing as they are sealed or “destroyed” and thereby forced dormant, until such a time as their evil can resurface months or (if lucky) years away. Each Archdungeon is a piece of the Lost World so foul that it continues like a cancer within the land, spawning corrupted presences, and endangering the population as its tendrils rise to the surface, opening new entrances.  Their size, shape and what a brave and foolish soul may discover within will vary greatly each time the dungeon resurfaces.

The Hellmouth is the “iconic” dungeon of the Republic of Andaliel, dubious as that honor is. The Andalians believe themselves masters of their land, building their vast and great capital of Oomash within a vast hollowed-out circle in the cold Hetuku Mountain, and taming the lush Southland that is the fertile and beautiful breadbasket of their nation. This is not mere hubris – they understand their relationship with the land, and they care for it. But the Hellmouth still seeks to punish them for their accomplishments. Heralded by the rising of entrances that seem like toothed maws, the Hellmouth is a living corruption of the element of Earth, one of the cardinal elements in the Adelian Wheel of Life. Read on for more details of this cursed place.

Contest: Read This Blog, Win 10bux

It’s time again for a blog contest. You could win a glorious $10 in RPGNow/DrivethruRPG credit, and buy whatever product you want with that sweet sweet digital lucre, just by reading this blog and commenting.

To enter, simply post a comment to this post with your name and a valid email address that you actually check, and can check within the period this contest will be open for – this is important because otherwise I can’t send you the link.

In the body of the comment you will write below, write me a little helpful bit about an article you read on this blog within the past two or three months (since July) and what you thought about it. The only stipulation is that you not comment on a meta-article, where I talk about the blog’s schedule changes or something. It has to be actual content – in all likelihood it will be tagged “Spirits of Eden” or “Expedition” and you will know it’s actual content.

The contest will be open until next Friday, October 7. I will randomly select one eligible commenter. I won’t actually look at your names when I do – I’ll probably pull them out of a hat without looking. The “eligible” thing is just if you posted a comment with a valid email address and an actual comment in the body.

In addition, anyone can enter the code “DiceInTheFall” to get 20% off the following products:

The Silver Lance (Adventure Aid)

Ruins of the old world lay scattered far and wide, and many times they contain things best left forgotten. Ancient weaponry is often highly sought after by the unscrupulous, and almost always found by the unwary innocent. While one might think such devices can be purified, can be made holy in the eyes of the spirit and again put to use serving the people, many times they are fit only for a cleansing pyre. But enemies lustful for old, locked-away powers are always on the hunt for new weaponry.

The Silver Lance is a scenario idea and an outline for play. There will be blanks which the GM should fill in to adapt and complete the scenario into a full game in his or her preferred style of play. While the scenario will assume many things about the game setting (specifically talking about this blog’s focus, The World of Adel), it is intended that the GM can adapt the ideas here to his or her game. At the end there will be a section to convert the scenario to a more generic game setting fit for fantasy titles like D&D, Fantasycraft, and D&D retroclones. Generic RPGs like GURPS should have no problems as well.

Feedback on the format and content of the posts is appreciated, so they might continue and get better. You can scroll to the bottom of the post where I ask for feedback and explain some things. It would be quite helpful!
