Tumblthings Are Happening
Posted: December 27, 2011 Filed under: News, RPG, Spirits Of Eden Leave a comment »I recently got into tumblr, and I found the medium to be really intuitive for sharing writing, so I decided to turn one into my new personal blog, and I set out another as a World of Adel fiction project. If you’re interested in seeing the setting come about as alive as my fiction prose can make it, and perhaps even more alive in the future if other artistic skills ever awaken, you can follow that tumblr. I hope to populate it with short stories, serials, and snapshot writing and other creative projects based on the World of Adel. I’ve always wanted to commit to writing fiction for the setting and I have now committed. Hopefully you’ll all be entertained or inspired by it one way or another. I know I hope to be – I love writing fiction.
With that, however, I have some less joyous news. I’ll probably not post any new articles to this blog until after new years. I’m sort of dry on article inspiration. (If you have any ideas for World of Adel stuff you’d like to see me write, drop a comment, or email me, or I’m available on Twitter, or whatever way you wish to communicate it.) I will return after new year’s with a retrospective post collecting my favorite articles of the year, then another retrospective post with the most-read articles based on my stats, and then perhaps some product reviews, as I try to get back in the worldbuilding groove.
So have a happy new year’s week everyone, and be safe.
Happy Holidays From The Spirit of Eden
Posted: December 25, 2011 Filed under: News, RPG 2 Comments »Greetings to all my esteemed readers, this is as always Dennis, and I’d like to thank all of you for your support throughout the year and to wish you all a Happy Holidays! The amount of support, best wishes and that bloody hit counter that I’ve gotten the past year have been beyond my expectations for this little abode. After I decided to leave 4e behind I got a little confused as to what to do, and ultimately, I’ve decided to just write what I want to about RPGs and about my worldbuilding without looking at trends, or following blogosphere memes. I’m glad to know that there are many people out there receptive to this, and who look forward to my posts. I’ve had thrilling discussions about what I consider to be fairly self-centered topics (like anything Adel) and found a lot more fans than I’d expected!
I often wish that I had something more grandiose planned on these occasions, but all I can write is this little post, saying that it’s your support that keeps me motivated, and I think 2012 is going to be great for us. You all saved my Christmas with your kindness. Thank you for your comments, thank you for linking from other blogs or social media, thank you for any donations you’ve given, thank you for using the affiliate links, or any other form of support you’ve shown. I can promise you that I will keep writing well past 2012, and I hope you will keep reading.
Spirits of the Sun-Circle: The Animal Clans
Posted: December 23, 2011 Filed under: Fluff/Inspiration, RPG, Spirits Of Eden 2 Comments »Adelian thought is mostly ruled by humanoid spirits, but there are nine clans of Animal spirits that are widely venerated for their willingness to aid mortals. Spirits in the World of Adel take after common thoughts, and are therefore mostly humanoid in appearance. They take after the Adelians – though there are certain small touches of the supernatural to their appearance, their faces and hands and shape take after the human, like the Adelians’ do. Animal Spirits fell out of favor as Adelians became more civilized. In order to preserve their power, nine of the minor animal clans made pacts with the Adelians, allowing mortals to make contracts with animal spirits so that they can summon them and receive their aid directly.
Fantastic Locations: The Voyaging Liberator
Posted: December 22, 2011 Filed under: Campaigns, Fluff/Inspiration, NPCs, Other Systems, RPG, Spirits Of Eden 2 Comments »Though the aerial forces of the Adelian nations are still burgeoning, with perhaps a two or three new ships accepted and incorporated every few years, Airships are still an important part of the military force, if not yet civilian life. For most folk, a ride in an airship is a novelty of a few hour’s time – the thought of being trapped in one for days as it flies across a nation is too strange and unproven. While some airships serve niche mercantile interest, such as delivering perishable goods faster than through land, to places where they will sell optimally, civilian and mercantile life is largerly earth or seabound.
But ever looking toward new frontiers, Vedaria commissioned the Guardian class P.A.S (The People’s Airship) ‘Liberator’ destroyer in P.C. 2002, and ten years later it is as advanced as it has always been (largely because technology in Adel advances at a snail’s pace). Its crew of airborne infantry and specialists grow accustomed to life in the air, and hope to help all sorts of new recruits, as well as civilian passengers during their yearly exhibition flights, to shed their fear of the air.
Review: Deathwatch First Founding
Posted: December 20, 2011 Filed under: Deathwatch, News, Other Systems, Products, RPG, Warhammer 40k 2 Comments »First Founding is a product for Fantasy Flight Games’ Deathwatch line of Warhammer 40,000 RPGs. This product can be found online for $20 and I received it for free as part of a Featured Reviewer program. Like all Deathwatch supplements it focuses on the Space Marines. First Founding was perhaps designed to allay a common complaint among Warhammer 40k fans, that Deathwatch did not include enough of the classic Space Marine chapters for prospective players to use when building their characters. First Founding includes Chapter advancement tables and powers for the First Founding chapters not covered in the original Deathwatch: the Iron Hands, Salamanders, Raven Guard and White Scars. It also includes new stuff for the previously introduced chapters, the Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves and Imperial Fists.
Factions In Adel III: The Humanist Societies
Posted: December 19, 2011 Filed under: Campaigns, Fluff/Inspiration, Other Systems, RPG, Spirits Of Eden Leave a comment »While it is difficult to say that there are many groups in Adel outright dedicated to evil, there are quite a few who run counter to the best interests of those around them, or who engage in dangerous activities with only their own position in mind. These groups are often a source of conflict or at least a source of tension, as their aid may sometimes be needed, but it is quite often stressful to procure. They can just as easily be the enemies who must be stopped and defeated to insure safety, or the begrudging allies whose aid is needed for the greater good of a community, a nation or even the world at large. Their contact with the Lost World, and the fragments they’ve gleaned of the dead culture of Humans, have warped their outlook.
