Hidden Kingdom Devblog: Writing Process

Though I’ve written a lot of sessions for plenty of D&D games over the years, many of those being D&D 4e games, I’d never actually written a module before trying my hand at it now. It was kind of daunting at first, but a lot of the same skills for writing your D&D 4e game sessions translate over well (in my opinion) to writing an adventure module for the system. The process though had to be different. I’m not a very structured sort of guy mostly. I like writing from the chaos of the mind, without a plan, without an outline. But I knew to get this done and done professionally it couldn’t just come out of a storm. I needed a process.

Races of Eden: Setah

Setah are an offshoot of one of Adel’s native races that populated the land along with the Iomadi. Setah are short-tempered, fast and physically powerful creature well at home in Eden’s forests, plains, jungles and mountains. Their keen sense and athletic prowess make them excellent hunters and trackers, and the profession of a ranger was for the most part their domain for much of Adel’s history. However, their early history is fraught with bloody savagery that they are quite conscious of, and that to this day they cannot entirely control. Setah are prone to hurting others, and while some relish their power, others curse it.

The Story As I Know It: Eoris Essence RPG

Eoris: Essence is an RPG that’s been talked of (mostly around rpg.net) since around 2008, when it surfaced. I found out about it a few weeks ago when browsing 4chan’s traditional games board. Apparently it’s somewhat of a joke to them. When I found out about it, I thought it’d be pretty funny to show to my friends, because the character sheet looks rather silly.

But the story turned out much deeper than that. This is my attempt to relate the story of the Eoris RPG, from its beginnings in 2008, to its status as of 2010. Later on I will review the actual game material that we have to go on, and give my opinion on it. For right now though, I want to just talk about the story behind the development, marketing and ultimately, the hopes for sale of Eoris: Essence, from as many sources as I could gather. It’s gonna be a long one.

Hidden Kingdom Devblog: Companionship

Companion NPCs were an interesting new element added to the game by the DMG2. In essence, they are Diet PCs, who are built using streamlined versions of the PC building rules, using PC classes and PC powers. Unlike normal NPCs, they are designed to be equivalent traveling partners for the PCs, so that if a PC is missing, a CNPC can be fit into that role and perform decently enough that the game won’t fall out of balance. One thing I did in this module was that, by default, there’s a point in the adventure where one of two characters you could befriend will follow you to your last confrontation with enemy.

Release: NAA D6 Version 1.5

You might have noticed that aside from my brother ptolemy devblogs, the blog was a little barren the past few weeks. I apologize for this, but I was hard at work at the next and most robust version of NAA D6 to date. While the other NAA D6s offered some incremental improvements and tweaks, this one is a much larger overhaul of numerous systems that I feel makes NAA D6, while a bit more complex than before, also much more strategically sophisticated. It clarifies numerous things, adds some new stuff and changes the way the skill purchasing and some other things work. Read on or download now.
