What the heck is N.A.A D6?
Posted: February 1, 2010 Filed under: Homebrew, News, RPG 4 Comments »I’ve been hinting (and for some of you, not-so-hinting) for a long time that I’ve actually been working on an RPG game that I would ultimately share for free. The fruits of this labor have been long since coming. I’ve already talked about making an RPG game before, and all previous attempts have fallen for one reason or another. But I’m ever closer to my goal, and the finished product is soon to be released: Not An Acronym D6, or NAA D6.
NAA is a 3d6 roll under point buy game in the vein of GURPS, intended to be, in a sense, “baby’s first 3d6 game” compared to big brother GURPS. It is far more abstract and abridged than the behemoth which is GURPS, and takes cues not only from GURPS, but also from the Storyteller System used by White Wolf and from D&D editions (both old and new), as well as some elements of what are commonly termed to be “story-games” in the modern sense.
In short, it’s not a being who’s component parts are individually very original (though it does, I hope, have enough original bits to be interesting) but it is a good conglomeration of elements which I enjoy in games and which I believe to be tried and tested. Whether the product is frankensteinian or pygmalian in nature remains to be seen.
It is so far, about 95 pages long. So it’s not baby’s first rpg. It isn’t, in any sense, rules light. It’s only rules light in comparison to much larger and developed games. For those of you who saw the “Unplayable Editions” I was distributing over Google Wave, I have the great pleasure of announcing that the next version will be the first Playable version, as in you can play it rather than just read it and bemoan all the parts you’re missing. However there will still be parts missing.
I’m trying to account for a large chunk of playstyles in this initial release, and it will be weird. What I’m hoping is that in releasing this first playable document, I can run some games with it, ask people what they want to see, and flesh out the game more. So this release will be kind of bare bones, I suppose.
As usual, it’ll be free from this blog (IE my mediafire account). The presentation will be bare-bones as hell, but at least you’ll have a PDF guys. I wanted to do a FAQ in this post, but the thing is, there’s not been any questions about it, because the audience so far has been very limited. So if you have questions, field them here.

I’m going to ask the obvious questions:
1) Although for free digital distribution, will you consider any kind of Print on Demand service to distribute dead tree versions? and
2) Would we possibly see some NAAD6 content for the Spirits of Eden setting?
Also, what is the proper way to say the system name? “NAD-Six”? N-Double-A-Six?
Otherwise, AWESOME!
1) It’s not currently a consideration, but there’s possibility in the future. In the near future I just want to concentrate on playing the hell out of it and incorporating what materials and refinements I need for it to feel “complete.” Once I have something I feel completely comfortable with, I will see what the alternatives are.
2) More than likely, although NAA is intended as a generic system, I will likely be running games in Eden with it, and as I talk about them, there’ll be monsters and advantages and things to go along with it.
I refer to it as “Nah Dee-Six” but any way you say it is fine.
I’ll be looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
Sounds interesting. The Storyteller system is one of my favorites, and incorporating story into an RP system is always a win by my book.
