Posted: May 30, 2009 Filed under: D&D, D&D 4e, News, RPG Leave a comment »As you’ve seen before, I have used the Dungeon Mastering Tools in order to make nice-looking monster cards for Spirits of Eden here. I’ve lacked the money to subscribe, and that’s made me a little sad and somewhat guilty, but the people at Dungeon Mastering just keep sweetening the deal. I thought I’d give them a little unasked for promo help.

Don’t Split The XP Budget (MM2 Review Part 1)
Posted: May 26, 2009 Filed under: D&D, D&D 4e, Humor, MM2, RPG 19 Comments »Mob Manual 2
I very rarely, review Wizard’s of the Coast D&D 4th Edition books, I believe the last time I did was because it was the Forgotten Realms Guide and I thought it was interested how the setting was so mutilated and gutted that I could finally consider playing in it. If the spellplague had not come along I would still consider myself as allergic to Forgotten Realms books and would still hold the superstitious belief that if I touched one my hand would turn into salt and God would burn my home town.
Can I still get the second part, God, buddy? There’s a lot of people there I’d like dead.
Now, I don’t review Wootsie books for 2 reasons:
•I don’t actually use any of their books except the 1st series of handbook/guide. I don’t even use the 1st monster manual much.
•People who have some reason to use their books can find better reviews geared to them.
With that in mind, you have to do one of these once in a while anyway because people love them so much. Reviews I mean. Especially of Monster Manuals.
The Locked Library of Somi Bodleian
Posted: May 25, 2009 Filed under: Adventures, D&D, D&D 4e, News, RPG 4 Comments »Anyone interested in my one-page dungeon can download it from here now.
This bundle also includes a (non fuzzy-looking) standalone map of the Locked Library, as well as a D&D 4e stat card for Somi, thanks again to Dungeon Mastering Tools. I was fiddling around with the idea of having Swords and Wizardry and D&D 3.5 stats for Somi included as well but I’m not feeling up to it at the moment.
This is a very odd dungeon I feel, mostly because writing it system-neutral meant I could throw in some new school-isms and old school-isms. For example, a trap that might chop off your whole hand, for keeps, that’s pretty unheard of in D&D 4e. And a lot of the traps are also the “the GM’s a jerk by trade” variety with no way real way to discover them but to use your head and try them out the old fashioned way – ten foot poles, throwing rocks, etc. I had a lot of fun thinking it up and I hope you enjoy it too.
Through Thunder And Lightning I Win 24 Hour RPG
Posted: May 23, 2009 Filed under: Homebrew, RPG 8 Comments »Just posting to mark my finish. Will edit later once thunder and lightning cease.
Finally got done with this insanity. 2 hours to go of time, but the thunder and lightning and losing power made me panic and post it earlier. I was hoping to expand a bit more on the assumed setting and add some more sample antagonists to the game, but oh well. The submission I sent, 29 pages, the finished work, you can download it for free here.
It is called Insectum, and it is a fantasy roleplaying game about playing bugpeople. (Like this and this.)
Instead of magic, you have hormones and pheromones. Which are magic, just with a different name. Everyone can use those to some extent. The game is designed for 3d6 play and is class-based, and is a sort of spiritual marriage/abomination of nature between practically every D&D-ish game you’ve ever seen, along with tokens, scenes and story arcs and other devices from “Story Games” kind of RPGs. It is sold as-is and you cannot reduce my Ebay rating because you don’t like it.
Oh wow, I’m already finding places with sentences that got cut off or say contradicting things. I still have time, maybe I should revise.
Edit: Found one outstanding problem – regardless of what the contradictory statements say, Pheromones and Hormones only work once each, once each scene. There are no separate rules for Scenes and Combat about how pheromones work. (There USED TO BE but I didn’t intend to leave artifacts of that behind.)

24 Hour RPG Challenge
Posted: May 22, 2009 Filed under: Homebrew, News, RPG 4 Comments »Starting today at 6:15 PM Eastern time and ending tomorrow at the same time. I expect I’ll be able to get 5-6 hours of work before some crap happens, then I’ll wake up super early the next day and wrap it up before 5:00 PM Sunday and give myself 75 minutes worth of technical problems or unrelated crap before uploading it to the 24 RPG guy’s thingy. I’ll try tweeting about what I’m doing during that time so you should follow me on Twitter, if you aren’t already. Check the link on the right called Wyattweets.
The theme for my 24 Hour RPG will be Insect Fantasy. It will be a freely downloadable PDF as is the norm, under the same creative commons license as everything else on this site. (Check the license on the left sidebar.)
I will also be on IRC at #WyattBugRPG on Rizon starting today and tomorrow. I will not accept any of your suggestions for absolutely anything, but we can talk about stuff if you’ve always wanted to talk to me about stuff. We’ll mostly be talking about bugs, anime bugs and whatever else we can think about. Maybe about Wriggle Nightbug. Wriggle~ Wriggle~
